    为了开阔全校师生的眼界，提高大家学习和研究数学的热情，在学校科研处的大力支持下，数学系邀请了意大利佩鲁贾大学Patrizia Pucci教授和巴西坎皮纳斯州立大学Alessio Fiscella教授，中国著名数学家、中国科学研究院研究员李树杰教授于7月12日上午在教学综合楼1楼B区报告厅为黑龙江工程学院全校师生作数学普及教育的讲座，主要介绍数学学习的目的意义以及研究数学的思想方法，欢迎大家踊跃参加。

报告摘要：变分法是当代数学基本方法之一，与数学的其他分支有密切联系，并在自然科学，工程技术和经济学理论中有广泛应用。我们希望在这一报告中用通俗的语言向大家介绍变分方法的发展历史和主要内容，并为不熟悉这一领域的人们提供一个变分理论的基本框架。

报告题目：Why study Mathematics?

报告摘要：The laws of nature are written by the hand of God in the language of mathematics, wrote Galileo Galilei and the importance of Mathematics and Mathematics education is clear since ever. Indeed, there are two legacies of the Ancient Greeks: Democracy and Mathematics. It is clear that democracy cannot work without mathematics. Without mathematics we would not be much more advanced than the ancient Babylonians. More importantly, the laws of nature are written in the language of mathematics, as said by Galileo. Mathematics is a powerful tool with many applications.  Advanced mathematical training can lead to many career opportunities, including business, finance, medicine, engineering, and basic sciences.
